‘Corruption rampant in police’

Wasim Akhtar, Adviser on Home Affairs, Sindh, has said that corruption was rampant in police department. Consequently, the government remained unsuccessful in improving the law and order situation in interior Sindh in general and Karachi in particular.

He said this while addressing the members of SITE Association of Industries. The Adviser stressed that police could not serve masses without putting the house in order and for this they had requested President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to post IGP from Sindh.

Akhtar said that it was very sad that the police was not serving general public but pleasing politicians, feudals, landlords and their bosses.

In another meeting with 8th National Rover Moot, Akhtar urged the scouts to complement the government efforts in curbing criminal activities like terrorism, trafficking and use of drugs, cell phones snatching bids and other street crimes.

He called upon the scouts to tenderly mobilise addicted youths, wherever they find them and inform them about harms and hazards of narcotics.

He pointed out that scouts were active in tree plantation drives, jihad against illiteracy, general health and community development works. He felicitated the Anti-Narcotics Force, Sindh for extending cooperation to Sindh Scouts Association and Pakistan Boys Scout Association.
