Police Constable Wilfredo Petillo of the Orange Walk police formation has been interdicted from duty and placed on half pay following his arraignment on Friday last on charges of wounding, robbery, possession of crack cocaine and damage to property.

The twenty-one year old Petillo met bail of $5,000 plus two sureties of $2,500.00 each. He’s scheduled to appear in court on July 5.

Orange Walk police say sometime around 7:30P.M. on Thursday, May 18 they responded to reports of a robbery at Bai Li Club, a casino on Lovers’ Lane in Orange Walk Town.

Forty-three year old Chen Guang Zhi, owner of the establishment, reported that shortly after 7:00 in the evening he heard his wife screaming for help.

Rushing to her side, Zhi saw a dark complexioned man stealing money from a drawer.

Zhi grabbed the intruder, who stabbed him in the back of the head with a knife during the struggle.

The bandit escaped with $206.

Zhi’s wife told Reporter: “My neighbour identified the thief from the videotape in the club as a policeman.”

Police say when they went to arrest Petillo they found 0.2 grams of crack cocaine in his house.

Police Commissioner Gerald Westby has issued a statement condemning the action of the officer involved. He reassures the public that such conduct which violates the Department’s Code of Ethics, will be dealt with in the most severe way.
