IPCC criticises police pursuit
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has found that police chases on public roads are often "too risky".
The report comes after a fatal crash on the M4 on 17th September, involving a car that had been chased by police until it turned onto the wrong side of the carriageway, when the pursuit stopped. The car later crashed head on into another vehicle, killing five and leaving the motorway shut for hours.
IPCC chairman Nick Hardwick said, "the danger is that officers initiate a pursuit without any tactics available to end it and simply wait for something to happen... Read more

Chief Addresses Ethics Probe
HONOLULU (KHNL) - Honolulu's top cop says there was nothing inappropriate about his trip to a law enforcement conference in Idaho last month. As KHNL News 8 first reported, police chief Boisse Correa is the target of a city Ethics Commission investigation.
On Wednesday, Correa criticized the police officers union, which asked for the probe.
Police chief Boisse Correa hands out awards to some of Honolulu's finest. But in the back of his mind is the city Ethics Commission's investigation into his trip to Idaho last month.
"I haven't been served with anything, so I don't know what's happening yet," Correa said. "But, you know, we're open. Whatever they want to ask us, we have the information."
The Ethics Commission launched the probe after the police officers union raised concerns.
"SHOPO is SHOPO," Correa said. "The leadership right now is a very unusual leadership. They want confrontation."
The union wants to know why the chief attended a conference in Sun Valley, when he was supposed to be on restricted duty following back surgery.
"When you're chief, even though you say you're on light duty, you're not on light duty," Correa said. "Three days after I came out of surgery, I was working. Today I'm on light duty. I'm working 10 hours today."
The Major Cities Chiefs Conference included meetings, training sessions, a bowling tournament, and three days of golfing.
"I went to work, believe it or not, from eight o'clock in the morning to five o'clock in the evening every day I was there," Correa said. "I did not participate in any extra-curricular activity. I don't golf."
Correa criticizes the union, saying it should be focusing on more important issues.
"Everything was above board," he said.
The Honolulu Police Commission approved the chief's trip before he left. But the chair of the commission said Wednesday, the panel will be reviewing that decision.
