Police chief may review suspen
MUMBAI: Newly-appointed police commissioner D N Jadhav is likely to order the review the suspension of over 400 police personnel in Mumbai.

Those who have been under suspension for over two years for minor default could be reinstated.

SF Officer Accused Of Snooping

SAN FRANCISCO -- A veteran San Francisco police sergeant accused of illegally using department computers to gather personal information on 20 individuals -- many of them women -- appeared in court on Tuesday.

Andre Fontenot, 46, who joined the department in September 1989, did not enter a plea. He is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 1.]

Judge Lillian K. Sing approved a sealed stay-away order and a $100,000 bail agreement.

After Fontenot left the courtroom without comment, his attorney Jim Collins said he would need to review the district attorney's evidence before commenting further.

"I'm not even sure what the charges are," Collins said.

An investigation has been underway for 18 months, according to police. In January 2005, Chief Heather Fong filed administrative charges against Fontenot with the San Francisco Police Commission.
