Police Abuse Their Power, Atta
Los Angeles Police Department uses force against reporters and protestors on May Day
Due to the “get tough” mentality of Los Angeles Police Department’s Police Chief William J. Bratton, the downtown crime rate has dropped to its lowest level in more than 60 years. After the attacks on protesters and reporters last Tuesday, during the May Day rally in MacArthur Park, one can’t help but ask, how tough do you have to get?

Vic police inquiry 'Spanish in

A police integrity hearing into Victoria's former armed offenders squad (AOS) is nothing short of a Spanish inquisition, the police union says.

The public hearing was on Tuesday shown secret footage of members of the state's now-disbanded squad bashing a suspect in an interview room on May 10 this year.

Three detectives denied to the inquiry they had ever assaulted the man or seen their colleagues kick, punch or slap him, despite the footage showing a series of assaults, which the Office of Police Integrity (OPI) claims depicts the trio.

Police Association Victorian secretary Paul Mullett said that if there was evidence supporting wrongdoing by members of the squad, it should be tested in a court of law and not an integrity hearing.

"This is nothing short of a Spanish inquisition," he told ABC Radio.

"If there is a prima facie case, let the evidence be tested in the appropriate jurisdiction.

"Allow these people to go through a fair process, not be dragged publicly through a humiliating process, one that is just merely one of a Spanish inquisition."
