The Police Department is at the top of the list.

Mar 09, Colombo: The number of Sri Lankan government officers arrested in connection with charges of corruption or extortion of bribes has risen.

A report by the Commission to investigate allegations of bribery or corruption revealed that there has been a considerable increase in this regard in the past three years.

Two Hunts Bay cops on corrupti

Two policemen from the Hunts Bay police station were remanded Friday when they appeared in the corporate area resident magistrates court.
The two Constables, Andrew Freeman and Christopher Burton, are charged with breeches of the corruption act, conspiracy and obtaining money by menace.

Constables Freeman and Burton were arrested last Saturday by members of the office of Professional responsibility, OPR.

The police say they were part of a gang who agreed to kill a businessman for three million dollars.

Reports are that the policemen collected half of the bounty before to going to the businessman and revealing the plot to him.

The policemen are said to have demanded money from the businessman not to kill him.

The businessman reported the matter to the police and the constables were arrested while on duty.

The constables are represented by Attorney at law Tom Tavares Finson and will return to court on December 9.
