A Chicago Police officer who decided to take his corruption case to trial now faces at least 40 years in prison.

That's a longer sentence than four other officers also charged with shaking down drug dealers. The others pleaded guilty and cooperated with authorities.

Ex-officer appeals ethics conv

Former Arab police officer Shane Alldredge, convicted in September of offering to dismiss tickets or other charges in exchange for sex, is appealing his conviction.

Alldredge's attorney, Charles H. Pullen of Huntsville, filed a motion in Marshall County Circuit Court last week requesting a new trial. Alldredge was sentenced in November to three years in prison on four ethics violation convictions.

During the trial, four women testified that Alldredge tried to get them to have sex with him, though none did. During the sentencing hearing, a woman testified that she had sex with Alldredge in exchange for his dropping a driving under the influence charge and other charges against her.

Marshall County District Attorney Steve Marshall said all points made in Pullen's motion are standard, but one was unexpected.

It states that Circuit Judge David Evans erred by allowing prosecutors to present evidence that had previously been deemed inadmissible.

Marshall said he was unsure what Pullen was referring to. Evans could rule on the request or allow Circuit Judge-elect Howard Hawk or Circuit Judge Tim Jolley to take over the case.

Evans is retiring Jan. 15. Alldredge remains free on bond during his appeal.
