Public police complaints down
The number of public complaints filed against York Regional Police has been dropping slightly over the last couple of years.

The Police Services Board recently received a report from Chief Armand La Barge summarizing public complaints.

In 2006, local police received 116 public complaints compared to 119 in 2005 and 124 in 2004. The actual strength of the service at the end of 2006 was 1,229 sworn officers. The ratio of conduct complaints for 2006 of .09 is one of the lowest ratios when compared to other large police services in Ontario.

Mayor and 1500 police fired to

THE mayor of Baquba and 1500 police in Diyala province have been fired in a bid to end corruption in the force and violence in the region north-east of Baghdad.

Ghanim al Qureyshi, the provincial police chief who took over operations when his predecessor was sacked last month, said Mayor Khalid al Senjeri, a Sunni Muslim, was dismissed over suspicions he was collaborating with Sunni insurgent fighters.

Al Qureyshi said the police were fired because they had fled rather than fight when Baquba was attacked by insurgents in November 2006. He added that he wanted to create a force free of corruption.
