Marion county deputy fired aft

A Marion County deputy sheriff was fired after he was charged Tuesday with groping a 14-year-old girl he arrested, authorities said.

Deputy Gabriel Pizzini allegedly coerced the girl to undress while he took a photograph of her in the back seat of his squad car, according to Capt. James Pogue, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Office.

Pizzini, 40, arrested the girl at her Silver Springs Shores home Monday after she refused to go to school, reports said.

Pizzini reportedly denied the girl's allegations but changed his story after investigators retrieved the picture he had taken of the girl.

He was charged with promoting sexual performance by a child, lewd and lascivious conduct, possession of child pornography and attempted evidence tampering. He was released from the Marion County Jail on Tuesday evening on $19,000 bond.

"We tried to act swiftly and do the right thing," Pogue said.

Investigators said it took Pizzini 28 minutes to travel nine miles from the girl's home to an assessment center. It was thought the abuse took place when Pizzini pulled over while en route to the assessment center. It was not known whether the girl had been released to guardians.

Pizzini, who is married, joined the department March 3, 2006, according to Sheriff's Office records.

"We hate that our officer acted like that," Pogue said. "This can make the whole department look bad."
