The Police Association has condemned a move by Victoria Police to scrap the Armed Offenders Squad.

The move comes only months after it was revealed that some of its members were under investigation by the Office of Police Integrity (OPI).

The Armed Offenders Squad is being replaced with a new group called Taskforce 700 or Taskforce Emerald.

FDA rules to reduce corruption

INSPECTORS with the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration are no longer allowed to dine out in their uniforms, according to new rules meant to cut down on corruption and improve the agency's reputation.

The FDA announced six new rules for its employees yesterday.

The rules outlaw accepting dinner invitations from companies they work with, asking for gifts from food and drug companies they regulate, using vehicles that belong to food and drug companies, or taking part in any illegal activities.

A final rule bans any attempt to abuse their authority.

Any FDA employee found breaking the rules will receive an official warning. Repeat or serious offenders face the risk of losing their jobs, the FDA said yesterday.

The FDA also told employees yesterday that they must posses a great deal of self-discipline to avoid conflicts of interest.

Several restaurant managers around the city praised the new rules yesterday, saying they wouldn't dream of refusing to serve a free meal to an FDA official in uniform.

"Supervisors have the right to stop our business at anytime, so it's hard for us to refuse their requests," said Wang Bin, the manager of Chicken Hotpot restaurant on Huanghe Road.

Other managers said they have never had problems with FDA supervisors. "We have never met such a situation," said a manager surnamed Lai at the Jade Garden restaurant. "At least I can assure that the officials in our district are quite self-disciplined. Except for regular inspections, I have never seen any of them having dinner in our restaurant in uniform."
