Senator clears cops of blame i

Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr cleared the police of any responsibility for his decision to negotiate with hostage-taker Armando "Jun" Ducat Jr last Wednesday.

Ducat, owner of the Musmos Day Care Center, took hostage of his own pupils inside a bus that was supposed to go on a field trip in Tagaytay City.

Revilla, in an interview with radio station dzBB on Friday, said he ignored the police’s warning not to go inside the bus when Ducat, his close friend, asked for his presence.

"Nakatutok yung baril sa akin, sabi, pumasok ka, pare, kaya pumasok ako (Ducat poked his gun at me, he told me to go inside the bus, so I did ," he said.

Revilla said police officials briefed him before he went inside the bus. He said his prior plan was to talk to Ducat outside the vehicle. But he knew at that point that he must follow Ducat or the latter might shoot him. "Nakita ko nandidilat yung mata niya (I saw his eyes glaring)," he said.

Administration senatorial candidate Luis “Chavit" Singson also arrived at the hostage scene and went inside the bus to talk with Ducat.

Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno on Thursday ordered the relief of three police officers, including Manila Police District officer-in-charge Senior Supt. Danilo Abarzosa, for mishandling last Wednesday’s 10-hour hostage crisis near the Manila City Hall.

The relief was however deferred on Friday upon the request of National Police chief Director General Oscar Calderon.

DILG assistant secretary Brian Yamsuan told GMANews.TV that Abarzosa will stay in his post until the investigating panel headed by PNP deputy for administration chief Deputy Director General Avelino Razon Jr, finished its inquiry in the hostage-taking incident.

Yamsuan added they will be giving Abarzosa until Sunday to explain how he managed the incident. "We are giving him (Abarzosa) within the week to explain the lapses."

"But this (deferment) does not mean that Abarzosa is already off the hook. He is still under investigation," he added.

The relief of MPD Station 5 head Supt Rogelio Rosales and ground commander Chief Insp Bernando Cubacub will however stay.
