VICTORIA Police still doesn't have a corruption resistant culture, its watchdog claims.

Office of Police Integrity director George Brouwer said he had evidence of corruption investigators being harassed and victimised by fellow officers.

He said some members of the Ceja taskforce, which identified widespread corruption in the former Victoria Police drug squad, had been badly treated.

"It indicates that Victoria Police still has some way to go to create a corruption resistant culture," Mr ... Read more

Police officer quits during in

FLORENCE - Police officer Brian Ferguson, 42, has resigned from the Florence Police Department after an internal investigation determined he was engaging in "inappropriate behavior" with an underage female, Police Chief Maurice Sanders said in a news release Monday.

Oregon State Police are conducting a separate criminal investigation, which is not complete, he said.

Lane County District Attorney Doug Harcleroad said his office has not yet received any police reports on the allegations. "All there is at this stage of the game is an investigation," Harcleroad said.

Sanders declined to discuss the nature of the allegations because of the continuing criminal investigation. The department learned of the situation on March 23. Ferguson, a Florence officer for the past 7 1/2 years, was placed on administrative leave; a sergeant completed an internal inquiry five days later, Sanders said.

The department immediately turned the case over to state police and took action to fire Ferguson, who then resigned voluntarily, Sanders said. Because the state police investigation is independent of his office, Sanders said he does not know when it may be finished.

The Florence Police Department has 15 officers and managers; two of those positions are vacant, Sanders said.

"Our community is one that expects and demands excellence in performance, impeccable integrity and appropriate behavior from all of its police officers," Sanders said. "The inappropriate behavior of one officer should not be a reflection upon the other dedicated public servants that serve the community."

Ferguson could not be reached for comment Monday.
