Federal Report Says Police Tar

The Department of Justice report claims minorities fare worse when it comes to traffic stops. The study says black and hispanic drivers are more likely to be searched and arrested when stopped by police. Take a look at the numbers, although the report found black, hispanic and white drivers are pulled over equally -- in terms of arrests, blacks were more than twice as likely as whites to be arrested, hispanic drivers were arrested 3 percent of the time. When it comes to searches, almost 10 percent of blacks and nearly 9 percent of hispanics were searched, compared to only 3 percent of whites. These findings are similar to a federal study done five years ago. Racial profiling has long been a problem in minority communities. So much so, in some neighborhoods it's been coined driving while black. News 3 did speak with Columbus Police Chief Ricky Boren. He says all of his officers are required to take sensitivity training.
