Jury convicts Chicago police o

A Chicago Police officer who decided to take his corruption case to trial now faces at least 40 years in prison.

That's a longer sentence than four other officers also charged with shaking down drug dealers. The others pleaded guilty and cooperated with authorities.

A federal jury convicted Eural Black yesterday on charges of racketeering and conspiracy. Four other officers charged in 2005 are likely to face less time because they agreed to cooperate with the FBI and US attorney's office.

Attorney Steven Hunter, who represented Black, says his client has maintained his innocence. But Black's former partner, Erik Johnson, testified that he and Black were part of the shakedown scheme.

Police officials say they will take action to fire Black, who has been suspended without pay.
