Public meetings on the future of policing failed to attract one member of the public in Mid or South Canterbury – possibly because they were not advertised locally.

Cronulla police bungle reveale

Embarrassing secret phone taps have been played at the Police Integrity Commission, exposing how officers bungled the Cronulla Riots.

Police Superintendent Adam Purcell is currently being investigated over another matter - an alleged cover-up of a rape case.

But a phone conversation he had with another officer, played in the hearing, details his frank assessment on why police at Cronulla got things wrong.

“There was a breakdown in communication…there was supposed to be a heads-up as soon as the convoys were mobile. That got misrelayed… into, “Do not pull over any carloads of Middle Eastern people,” Superintendent Purcell is recorded saying.
