Snitch! Tattletale! Squealer! Aren’t these amongst the most loaded words from our childhood, words having terrible connotations and associations of being ostracized, negatively judged and being a bad friend?

I recently came across a small group of 13-year-old boys who got into trouble with their parents because another friend stole something (a cigar of all things) from a convenience store while they were waiting outside. They did not know he was going to do it and admonished him when he told them.
Later in the day, while the boys were still together, the cigar fell out of the bo... Read more

Police arrested for hijacking

A policeman from the Pretoria vehicle theft unit has been arrested in connection with a truck hijacking, police said.

Inspector Anton Breedt said the policeman was arrested on Tuesday shortly after the hijacking near Rosslyn Park.

"The policeman and two other men stopped a truck, carrying cotton and 300 boxes of cigarettes, just outside Pretoria," said Breedt.

"The three were driving a white Almeira. They forced the occupants of the truck - two men and three women - out of the truck and then asked them to get into other vehicles."

The women were driven around Rosslyn Park in the Almeira, while the men were bundled into another vehicle and driven around the same area, said Breedt.

"After a while one of the women asked the driver to stop at a fuel station so that she could use the bathroom. As they stopped she spotted a metro police officer and related the incident to him."

The driver of the car was arrested and later identified as a member of the SA Police Services, said Breedt.

The truck, as well as the two truck drivers, were found near the petrol station shortly after the arrest.

The boxes of cigarettes had been stolen from the truck.

Breedt said police were investigating and more arrests were expected.

He said the arrested policeman would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court soon.
