Police row over 'child' commun
The body representing rank-and-file police officers has described the hiring of two 16-year-old community support officers as a "nonsense" that could endanger lives.
Alan Gordon, the vice chairman of the Police Federation, said the "children" would be exposed to "inordinate risks" which they were ill-equipped to deal with because of their age.

He was speaking as Thames Valley police defended its decision to recruit the school leavers, claiming they would be able to interact with other young people.

A spokesman for the force said: "If you are good enough you are old e... Read more

Portland Officer Faces Miscond

The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office has opened a criminal investigation into the on-duty conduct of a Portland police officer.

FOX 12’s news partner, the Portland Tribune, reported at least three women have come forward to file complaints against Officer Matthew Kohnke.

According to the Portland Tribune, the Portland Police Bureau placed Kohnke on paid administrative leave in August after allegations that he was taking advantage of women while on the job.

One of the women, Tina Lynch, alleged that Kohnke pulled down her pants and her shirt during a search that she said was unwarranted.

According to Lynch, she was walking home late one night near 122nd Avenue and Holage when Kohnke stopped and asked if she had anything to hide.

“He said, ‘Can I search you?’ I said, ‘Yes,’” said Lynch.

According to Lynch, the officer looked at her breasts, genitals and buttocks during the search. She said she was so shocked she didn’t even know what to say to him.

“Through the whole process, he was telling me, ‘Girls I know like to show their stuff,’” said Tina Lynch, who filed the complaint. “He says that like four times.”

Lynch said she immediately reported Kohnke to the bureau, but her claims were not taken seriously until several other women came forward.

“I don’t even feel safe calling police now because of what they can do to me,” said Lynch. “I can imagine what they’ve done before and what they could do.”

FOX 12 telephone Kohnke’s attorney, but he has not been available to comment.

Kohnke was hired in 1998 and has worked East Precint since 2000.
