Nigeria: Police Send Some Offi

Zone 7 of Nigeria Police has suspended some paymasters in divisional police stations in the FCT.

AIG, Zone 7, took the decision to suspend the officers due to the complaints she received from junior officers about frequent deduction in their salaries.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the activities of the paymasters was revealed when callers of radio programme (police diary) made the complain that policemen who receive their salaries on the table were frequently checked by some paymasters.

This made the CP Haruna John to find out that paymasters prepare vouchers and include the names of dead officers as well as ghost staff.

It was also gathered that the pay vouchers also contained names of sacked policemen.

It was learnt that when queries were issued to the affected officers by the assistant inspector -general of police in charge of Zone 7, the affected men did not care about the queries. And they were all surprised to receive suspension letters without pay.

It could be recalled that sometime this year, CP Haruna John, commissioner of police for FCT, discovered that N500,300,209 was deducted from the salaries of rank and files and the paymasters claimed that the order was from above to help any police personnel with health problem or those that need assistance.

CP Haruna John ordered a refund of such deductions collected from rank and files for housing.

He also directed the DPO's and other heads of department under FCT command to report such corruption to him immediately for action.

LEADERSHIP visited Zone 7 police office for the AIG to comment on the matter but the AIG was not on seat, as at press time.
