Troopers to play role in fight
New Jersey's attorney general announced a new plan Wednesday to enlist state troopers in his drive to root out corrupt public officials.

Stuart Rabner said troopers who now investigate organized crime also will be assigned to public corruption probes. This new anti-corruption tactic will allow state prosecutors to tap into the potentially valuable lists of confidential informants who already leak information to troopers about a range of illicit activities.
"The key to it all is building a stable base of leads," Rabner, the state's chief law enforcement officer, said in an inte... Read more

Jailed cop is single mother wi

CEBU CITY, Philippines – A policewoman arrested on Monday during an entrapment operation for a P50,000 bribery attempt is a single mother with two children.

Police Officer 1 (PO1) Blair Quezon, 28, was detained Tuesday at the Cebu City Police Office after she was caught allegedly trying to bribe a fellow policeman to downgrade a drug case of a woman arrested for selling P200 worth of shabu.

She denied the charge.

Quezon is the breadwinner of the family after separating from her husband.

She was relieved from her post in the Administrative office of the Cebu Provincial Police Office pending the filing of administrative and criminal charges.

Superintendent Audie Villacin, her boss, said Quezon has been working for a year at the CPPO but she has been in the police service for four years.

As a PO1, she earns P13,000 to P15,000 a month, which is a far cry from the P50,000 she allegedly handed to a policeman to smooth over a drug case.

Quezon was caught trying to intercede for a woman arrested for drug pushing.

The Regional Anti-Illegal Special Operations Task Group in Central Visayas (Raidsotg 7) filed three sets of charges on Tuesday against Quezon at the Visayas Ombudsman's Office.

She was cited for violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, bribery and violation of the Code of Ethics of a Public Official.

The paperwork ,however, was not finished and will be continued Wednesday.
Raidsotg 7 headed by Superintendent Marvin Sanchez conducted the entrapment operation against Quezon last Monday.

Quezon was arrested when she handed P50,000 cash to Police Officer 2 Roehl Patalinghug at the Raidsotg 7 office on Monday.

Quezon was allegedly trying to influence the policeman to downgrade the case of Cleofe Racaza, who was arrested for selling shabu, which is a non-bailable offense, to the lesser charge of drug possession.

Racaza was arrested on Friday in Sitio (district) Galaxy, Barangay (village) Tangke, Talisay City for allegedly selling P200 worth of shabu.

Quezon named a lawyer she said told her to negotiate for the downgrading of Racaza's case. She said the same lawyer gave her the P50,000 to bring to the Raidsotg 7 office.

Raidsotg 7 chief Sanchez said they do not have enough proof to pin down the lawyer until the policewoman.

Sanchez said they were waiting for Quezon's counter-affidavit before they would decide on what action to take against the lawyer.

Meanwhile, Cebu Provincial Police Chief Valmoria said would probably be dismissed from the service considering the gravity of the offense she is facing.

Valmoria said Quezon was suspended during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit because she did not report to her duties during the summit.
