Alleged sex misconduct by Maco

A Macon police investigator is in jail after being charged with sexually assaulting a person in custody.

William Enders, 35, of Northside Drive, was arrested at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Bibb County jail records.

Enders is an investigator assigned to Macon Police Area II in north and west Macon, according to a police news release.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Melanie Hofmann said an internal investigation is under way.

"By city policy he has been placed on administrative leave for five days pending termination," she said.

The charges stem from a Dec. 19 incident on Gray Highway, according to a police report.

The report doesn't describe any details of the alleged assault, and none was released by police Thursday.

Officers received notice Wednesday that the victim of the alleged sexual assault had gone to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, according to the police report

Macon police investigators met with the victim, whose identity is being withheld, and her sister and took statements Wednesday. Other potential witnesses also have been identified, according to the report.

Hofmann said the case remains under investigation.

Enders is being held without bond at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
