Toronto police hold session in
Toronto police were in the heart of the city’s gay village Saturday afternoon hoping to further expand the force’s diversity portfolio through one of many recruiting sessions aimed at members of the gay community.

The police service has made efforts to diversify its force by recruiting officers who reflect a variety of ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds found across the city.

Police Commissioner and ACP Fe

Police Commissioner, Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin and Head of the Anti-Corruption Branch, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Justin Felice, will host the second in a series of call-in programmes tomorrow (April 17) between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., as the police force seeks to arrest the issue of corruption among its members and Jamaicans at large.

"What we are asking people to do is to fight corruption from the inside of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and we want members of the public to report unlawful police activity. They have a choice to either speak to the Commissioner or myself on the phone between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Thursday night," Assistant Commissioner Felice told JIS News.

He also appealed to "the good officers within the Jamaica Constabulary Force, of which there are many, to ring me and speak about any concerns they have about unlawful police activity."

"If you want to make a difference and make the JCF a good place to work, where people can be proud to be a part, we are respectfully asking them to come forward and report any wrongdoing and make a difference," the Anti-Corruption Head stated.

He noted that the last call-in programme held in March was very successful with about 90 calls received. "The last time.was very beneficial and a lot of good information came into the system. All the information received is being acted upon. We are developing some of it and we have actually made inroads with some of the information gathered," ACP Felice informed.

The Anti-Corruption Branch has arrested some 26 police officers and three members of the public for breaches of the Anti Corruption Act since September of last year, with more than 20 arrests made since January.

ACP Felice explained that subsequent arrests are linked to the fact that members of the public are continuously offering information through the monthly call-in programme and through other calls to the Anti-Corruption Branch.

"I appeal to those people to continue coming forward and make those reports to me in order to take the positive action that is required," he said.

The numbers to call tomorrow are 1-888-COMMISH or 1-888-266-6474 and 1-888-CALL-NOW or 1-888-225-5669.

The call-in programme entitled: 'Fighting Corruption from the Inside Out- Report Unlawful Police Activity', is being staged in collaboration with the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ).
