Former police officer arrested

A POLICE officer turned teacher is the latest suspect in an alleged corruption probe.

Detectives raided a house in West Yorkshire and arrested a man in his 40s as he returned from holiday.

The suspect, named locally as Simon Alistair Harrison, known as Alastair, is said to be on a career break from the Northumbria force.

After serving more than four years with the force, mainly in the Newcastle command area, he then took up a career teaching.

It is understood Northumbria officers arrested Mr Harrison, 43, as a 15th suspect in an inquiry looking into alleged links with criminals.

The Chronicle reported a serving Northumbria policewoman had been suspended after she was discovered allegedly advertising herself on an escorts website.

Known on the Notorious Girls website as “Kelly” the 28-year-old was arrested over claims she offered her services for £100-an-hour.

She was one of eight women and six men arrested on Monday and Tuesday last week by officers investigating prostitution and corruption.

Suspects were targeted in Northumbria, County Durham, Greater Manchester, Cleveland and the Scottish Borders.

Kelly is believed to be one of around 70 women advertised on the website run by Neil Lock and his wife Natalie.

She is described on the website as having hazel eyes and brunette hair.

The Chronicle understands the policewoman was based in Sunderland before she was suspended.

Now we can reveal the latest raid came last Thursday when Mr Harrison returned to a home, believed to be his girlfriend’s residence. Officers had been watching the detached house in Kippax, near Leeds, for two days.

A Leeds-based source told the Chronicle: “The couple returned just as the police carried out the raid and were doing the search.”

It is understood Mr Harrison’s girlfriend was distraught to find police on her doorstep and was unaware of any police probe. According to the source: “The house was turned upside down, computers were removed, carpets pulled up and stuff was even taken from fridge.

“The man is originally from Newcastle and had lived in Jesmond.”

Those arrested have been given police bail until November as further investigations are carried out.

On his website, Notorious Girls owner Mr Lock wrote: “On Monday a large number of people were arrested, including Natalie and myself. We were questioned in relation to various so-called criminal offences.

“The main issue they have is that one of the escorts advertised on the Notorious Girls North East site is a policewoman, so Monday was the day that saw Northumbria Police arresting each other.”

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “The arrests are the result of a protracted investigation into organised prostitution and corrupting public officials.”
