Police officer charged with as

A former police officer has been charged with six counts of assault occasioning bodily harm over three alleged incidents that occurred while he was still working.

The officer, whose rank and age have not been released, was working in the state's central region when the alleged assaults occurred.

The Queensland Police Service would not comment on the details surrounding the charges, but released a statement yesterday confirming the officer had been suspended from duties in May.

The officer later resigned from the service before the outcome of an Ethical Standards Command inquiry, and was charged yesterday.

He will appear in Proserpine Magistrates Court on October 6.

Meanwhile, a senior constable working at Toowoomba has been stood down from duties for allegedly stealing a money from the station where he worked.

The 50-year-old administrative duties officer tendered his resignation yesterday and was issued with a notice to appear for stealing, a police media spokesman said.

It follows an investigation by the Ethical Standards Command into allegations of theft. The man will face Toowoomba Magistrates Court in November.

"The Queensland Police Service is committed to providing a quality service to the people of Queensland, based on integrity, fairness, professionalism and accountability," the spokesman said.
