Police fire officer facing sex
A policeman accused of groping a female motorist during a traffic stop and acting inappropriately toward a girl at Norwalk High School was fired yesterday.

Police Chief Harry Rilling fired Ray DeCamillo, citing the former patrolman for conduct unbecoming of an officer, incompetence, failure to conform to the law and other violations of department policy in the two incidents.

DeCamillo was hired by police in September 2004.

"It's been a very difficult time for a lot of people," Rilling said. It's "time to put this behind us and move forward."

Leoni officer faces misconduct

A Leoni Township officer faces charges of misconduct in office and filing a false felony stemming from the accidental firing of his weapon.

Officer Jerry Massey Jr., 44, made false claims in seeking felony charges against a suspect he pursued on Aug. 19, a Michigan State Police investigation concluded.

Warrants for Massey's arrest were issued Thursday. Massey was to turn himself in to the court for arraignment by sometime today.

The officer initially reported he was in Parma interviewing a witness in a drug case when the suspect attempted to go for him. Massey said he pulled his .45-caliber handgun, then attempted to holster it when it accidentally discharged.

"The gun was accidentally discharged but there were certain discrepancies in his report," Leoni Township Public Safety Director Bill Lenaghan said Thursday.

The bullet did not strike anyone.

Lenaghan sought an outside investigation, the results of which state police submitted to Prosecutor Hank Zavislak. The charges are felonies punishable by up to four and five years in prison.

Lenaghan said he had placed Massey on administrative leave initially, and this week suspended him without pay pending the outcome of his case.

Massey, reached by phone at his home in Belleville, deferred to his attorney, Michael Vincent.

Vincent said he would comment after reading the police report and hearing the full charges at Massey's arraignment.
