Does Arrogance = Corruption?
Giovannelli Central, By RAY GIOVANNELLI

Apparently arrogance knows no bounds. In some previous columns, I have talked to you about abuse of authority being a form of corruption. I indicated to you that this behavior, when sustained and uncorrected, can lead to even more flagrant and possible criminal behavior.

In those past articles, I cited a real example of the abuse of authority. I reported to you the case of Illinios State Police Commander Michael Callahan who sued the agency and two of his superiors alleging that he was transferred to a less prestigious position in ... Read more

Sub-inspector caught taking br

MUMBAI: Sudhakar Krishna Bhosle, (45), a police subinspector at the Juhu police station was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB)
while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 inside the police station late on Saturday night.

The complainant, Mariappa Devendra, is a resident of the Nehru Nagar slum in Juhu. According to the ACB, Devendra, who stays in a tiny hutment, was constructing the mezzanine floor of his house last month. Bhosle, who was in charge of beat no 3, stopped the work and summoned Devendra. When Devendra went to the police station, Bhosle allegedly scolded him and demanded a sum of Rs 50,000 to keep his mouth shut. However, sources said that after a lot of bargaining, the amount was brought down to Rs 25,000. Bhosle had accepted the first installment of Rs 5,000 from Devendra last week.

Bhosle had been harassing Devendra for the remaining amount. Devendra approached the ACB, which laid a trap, said deputy commissioner of police (ACB) Prabhakar Satam.

Sources said this could be just the tip of the iceberg as several other policemen from the Juhu police station were involved in corruption and would beat up residents. Citing a recent incident, sources said that around 100 people gheroed the police station after Shekar Varden, a resident of Nehru Nagar slum, was beaten up by the cops for no reason.
