Sarpanch ‘beaten up’ at police
Amritsar, May 1: IN a yet another case of political vendetta, Sekhwan village sarpanch Harbans Singh, who is witness in a corruption case against former Akali minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan, was allegedly beaten up badly at a village police post.

Harbans alleged that besides the policemen, gunmen deputed with the former minister also dragged him to the police post along with some women members of his family and “tortured him in the illegal custody”.

Saying that his only fault was that he had been a witness in the corruption case pending at the Special Judge’s court at Gurd... Read more

UK: Senior police officer fake

A senior police officer was forced to resign after pretending to be on jury service to take time off work.

Det Insp Nav Riaz of Greater Manchester Police was called as a juror for a two-week trial early last year.

He was not selected as one of the 12 members of the jury but told his employers he would be serving on the panel and did not return to work.

He resigned from the force on 19 January, after admitting misconduct at a tribunal.

He admitted two counts of misconduct - that he had failed to behave with honesty and integrity and that he failed in the performance of his duties as a police officer.

Mr Riaz, who worked in the Didsbury, Withington and Chorlton area, was caught after being spotted watching an employment tribunal in Manchester.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "The officer has been required to resign following a misconduct tribunal that followed an investigation by Greater Manchester police's professional standards branch."
