Cop arrested for corruption

Johannesburg - Three men - a police officer, a court officer and a student constable - were arrested in Duduza near Springs on charges of corruption, Gauteng police said on Sunday.

Captain Johannes Ramphora said the three men went to a cigarette vendor in Duduza on Saturday and claimed he was selling fake and illegal cigarettes.

The three men seized the man's stock.

The vendor reported the matter to police who found the three men and arrested them at around 17:00 on Saturday.

The three men paid a fine of R2 000 each, returned the Bangladeshi vendor's stock to him and were charged with corruption.

After further investigation, the three would appear before the Nigel Magistrate's Court, said Ramphora.
