Police chief faces admin. char

Madison's embattled chief of police, Paul Jakubson, will face administrative charges brought by the Madison Board of Police Commissioners.

Jakubson has been on administrative leave for nearly a year after the Police Commission brought charges against seven officers on the Madison force.

The accusations of wrongdoing in the department range from stealing lobsters to visiting prostitutes while on duty.

The commission says that Jakubson ignored and even condoned the sexual and criminal misconduct of officers on his force. Additionally, the commission will charge the chief with improper storage of records and/or evidence. The commission also says that he refused to acknowledge a direct order from them and lied to members of the State Police who were investigating his alleged misconduct.

Jakubson's lawyer has called the investigation against the suspended chief a witch hunt.

"I appreciate Attorney Kelley's attempt to minimize these charges however I believe when the public has an opportunity to read these charges or see the reports they are very serious matters," said the Chairman of the Police Commission, Emile Geisenheimer.

Jakubson will appear Monday before the commission where they will formally present the administrative charges.
