News4 has learned nine Montgomery County police officers have been accused of working as private security guards when they were supposed to be working as police officers.

The nine officers have been placed on administrative leave during the investigation, News4 reported. Eight other officers also are being investigated.

Jury clears SJ police of exces

SAN JOSE, Calif.—A federal jury has cleared San Jose police officers of excessive force allegations brought by three students after a chaotic Mardi Gras celebration in 2006.

But the civil jury Wednesday deadlocked over whether the officers were liable for damages to a fourth student who claimed she was hit in the back with a baton as police tried to control the event.

The four women said they were returning to San Jose State University Mardi Gras night when officers unnecessarily struck three of them with batons and used pepper spray on the fourth.

Police said the women were combative and refusing to heed commands.

San Jose City Attorney Rick Doyle called the jury's decision a "good result" for the city.

But Matt Gonzalez, the women's attorney, said it shows jurors were reluctant to probe the misconduct claims
