Ex-Gaylord police chief senten

The former police chief of Gaylord, Minnesota was sentenced Monday on one charge of misconduct of a public officials for his role in an alleged "bugging" scheme.

A judge put Dale Lee Roiger, 60, on probation, ordered him to complete 15 days of electronic home monitoring, complete 15 days of community service and pay a fine of $835. If Roiger complies with the conditions, the charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor, according to Carver County Attorney Jim Keeler.

The criminal complaint in the case stated, Roiger instructed one of his officers plant a tape recorder in the office of the Gaylord Chamber of Commerce.

It allegedly happened in July 2007 when the council was considering contracting with the Sibley County sheriff's office for police services.

According to Keeler, Roiger admitted making comments about recording the meetings, but denied attempting to record a conversation.
