Estonia: High-Ranking Officials Fired from Tallinn Municipal Police

Deputy director Kalmer Filatov, head of department Margit Teino and police internal investigator Tiina Raja were fired from the Tallinn Municipal Police due to alleged abuse of position.

In their declaration of interests, the officials failed to disclose that they owned shares in the limited liability company Õiguskoda, municipal police spokeperson Monika Lestberg told uudised.err.ee.

Among other services, the company offers preparation of misdemeanor appeals and drafting court complaints, which goes against the code of ethics for officials, Lestberg added.

Police director Monica Rand said it was "regrettable" that the former head of the agency, Kaimo Järvik had not paid sufficient attention to media reports concerning the issue.
