N. Charleston police to meet with chaplains, officers after misconduct incidents

North Charleston police officers will be meeting with commanders and chaplains in the coming weeks to discuss ethics and responsibility after several cases of police misconduct.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports four city officers have been charged in situations involving alcohol during the past six months.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating a former officer fired after prosecutors said their were discrepancies in his story about a struggle with a fleeing suspect in 2009.

Police Chief Jon Zumalt says the misconduct is out of character for the department of 325 officers. Zumalt says the meetings are part of a new strategy to strengthen integrity and values.
