USA: Off duty Border Patrol agent arrested

An off duty Border Patrol agent, temporarily assigned to the Douglas area from El Paso, Tex. has been arrested and charged with one count of burglary, three counts of forgery, one count of theft and eight counts of illegal use of a credit card.

According to Sgt. Jose Duarte of the Douglas Police Department on Aug. 4 Douglas Police Officers investigated a theft of a purse that had taken place at the Chevron Gas Station, located at the 100 block of 16th Street.

The victim informed officers that her purse had been stolen from a blue Nissan Sentra during the early morning hours.

Sgt. Duarte said his officers were informed that the purse had been left on the floorboard of the vehicle and when the victim went to retrieve her purse, she found it missing. The victim stated that her purse was valued at approximately $300 and that she had her cell phone, identification, multiple credit cards, and cash inside of the purse.

Later that same morning, the victim informed the Douglas Police Department that someone had used her credit cards at the local Wal-Mart Store for multiple purchases totaling approx. $231.

While continuing their investigation at the Wal-Mart store and through their surveillance video the DPD officers observed a male subject, identified as Teofilo Rodarte, 32.

With the assistance of Douglas Border Patrol, DPD officers met with Rodarte on Aug. 5 at the Douglas Border Patrol Station and conducted an interview with him during which time they were able to get a statement from the agent in which he admitted to the wrongdoing.

Duarte said the officers were also able to retrieve some of the merchandise he had purchased.

Rodarte was arrested and charged at the Douglas Border Patrol station. He was then transported to the Cochise County Jail where he was incarcerated pending his initial appearance.

Sgt. Duarte said officers in this case used all of the resources available, along with the surveillance videos from the stores, to investigate the case and make an arrest.
