UK: West Midlands Police officers suspended during theft inquiry

Four West Midlands Police officers have been suspended while the force investigates complaints of misconduct.

The allegations concern the mishandling of property taken from members of the public "that could amount to theft," the force said.

The four officers include the ranks of sergeant and constable.

Deputy Chief Constable Dave Thompson said the inquiry would "vigorously investigate any potential misconduct offences".

"We expect the highest standards of integrity and honesty from those who serve with West Midlands Police," he added.

The investigation is being conducted by the force's Police Professional Standards Unit and has also been voluntarily referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Mr Thompson said the force was working closely with communities to resolve any concerns.
