Police Sexual Misconduct Investigated

HARTFORD, Ark. -- The Sebastian County Sheriff's Office began an investigation on November 7, 2011 into allegations that Hartford Police Officer Jonathan Brassfield received consensual oral sex from a female subject that was in his custody and care.
The female subject was taken from her home by Officer Brassfield in a custodial capacity as she had made threats to hurt herself. She stated that she was never handcuffed, never placed in the back of the patrol unit and did not go into the ER. Instead, Officer Brassfield and the female subject stayed in the patrol vehicle and chatted for a long time. The female subject did not know exactly how long they visited, but guessed an hour or two. She stated that the conversation was about her getting her life together and it ended with Officer Brassfield telling her that he was not going to take her to jail or put her in the hospital for evaluation at that time. Officer Brassfield allegedly told the female subject that he was doing her a favor and he hoped that at some point that she could return the favor.
On the return trip to Hartford Officer Brassfield deviated from his route, pulling over in a rural area off of the highway. He asked for and received oral sex from the female subject. The female subject told investigators that she was fearful not to do so because Officer Brassfield was a police officer.
Investigators uncovered discrepancies in the radio log information in reference to Officer Brassfield's travel with the female subject that was in his custody and care. The discrepancies center around time of travel and mileage on the return trip.
On 12-1-11 a warrant was signed by a judge for the arrest of Officer Brassfield on the charge of Abuse of Public Trust, a class D felony.
