In respect of the news article titled "Honest Cops Secret Agony" dated 17/4/06 available in the Information Room, EiP asks "What can organisations do to develop confidential, safe reporting systems to challenge misconduct or unethical behaviour without fear of retribution or becoming a victim? How good is this in your organisation or in your own experience?"

From my experience the person concerned needs to know that their exposure of such behaviour will be dealt with, that they themselves will not become the victims and they will be treated with respect. In many cases the professional standards reporter becomes the victim. The whole point of EiP is to encourage police staff to discuss issues with others, seek advice and consider their options. It could be the case that EiP could take forward issues on behalf of their members thus ensuring the matter is brought to the attention of the proper authority without exposing the member ?

What do you think ?
