Further to our debate regarding the issue of Police Dicipline issues being in public if we consider the recent article regarding the report into police corruption which appears to have been leaked accidently and then an article a few weeks age from South Africa where the Senior Police Officer actually blamed the public for the cause of corruption by bribing the police officers do we consider there is some form of mistrust all round. If we are aware of a criminal activity and understand the causes then surely we need to be honest about the problem. It must be important to inform the public about the scale and type of corruption that has been identified in order to let the public know that the police management are not living in an unrealistic world and accept there are problem police officers. Having gained the public support regarding realism then maybe and only maybe the public will feel more confident in reporting behaviour that is not appropriate of police officers.

As johnjones said in his posting it is a matter of public trust. We can accept that police undercover operations against police corruption can not be open to debate when ongoing but the outcome of such operations win, lose or draw should be made public.

In my opinion its all about trust , if you are unable to hold an open debate then you need to ask yourself why?.
