BADLY trained police in Afghanistan are spreading fear on behalf of political masters instead of protecting the community, the International Crisis Group has warned.

Former DGP of Orissa chargeshe

BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa Government has chargesheeted the former Director-General of Police, N.C. Padhi, and 62 others for alleged irregularities in recruiting constables.

The others chargesheeted by the Vigilance Department include the former Additional DGP, Prafulla Chandra Mishra; the former Commandant, 6th Battalion of Orissa Special Armed Police (OSAP), Cuttack, Arabindanath Mitra; and the former Commandant, 3rd Battalion of OSAP, Koraput, Prasanta Kumar Mohapatra.

The charge sheets were filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Cuttack, on Saturday in connection with two cases that were registered in 2003.

Fifty-seven Constables from different wings of the State police have also been named as accused. A total of five cases were filed in 2003 under the Prevention of Corruption Act for alleged irregularities in recruiting constables.
