Police serious misconduct comp

Complaints of serious misconduct by police against police remain high.

New Police Complaints Authority figures show that in the year to June the Police Commissioner referred 155 cases of serious misconduct or neglect of duty.

That compares with 154 the year before and between 92 and 124 in the four years before that.

National manager of professional standards Superintendent Stuart Wildon says the rise reflects a heightened awareness of matters of integrity among police.

PCA head Ian Borrin believes the increase is partly due to a commission of inquiry into police conduct, launched nearly three years ago.
