Police officer pleads not guil

A Providence police officer pleads not guilty to raping a woman at a police substation.

Marcus Huffman is charged with first-degree sexual assault. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison.

At his arraignment, prosecutors say Huffman raped a 19-year-old woman who was turned away from a club because she appeared intoxicated. He then allegedly showed up to take a report after the victim called 911 from a relative's home.

Superior Court Judge Daniel Procaccini set bail at $50,000.

Prosecutors say they have video of Huffman entering the deserted police substation with the purported victim. They also claim to have recovered Huffman's semen from the woman's boxer shorts.

Huffman's attorney, Raymond Angell, says he's confident the charges will be refuted.
