Cop takes on City Council
It's not the first time that Dave Murillo, an opinionated radio commentator who is also a Des Moines police officer, has irritated government officials by bluntly telling them how to do their jobs.

This time, the spat is in his hometown of Norwalk, population 8,300. Since firefighters there asked him to be their spokesman, Murillo has called for the ouster of most of Norwalk's City Council.

The target of Murillo's wrath is the decision to promote Police Chief Eddie Kuhl, with whom Murillo has had a long-standing feud, into a new public safety coordinator position.

Reports due on NSW police 'cor

Potentially explosive police corruption reports centred on two senior NSW investigators will be tabled in the state parliament on Wednesday.

The two unrelated Police Integrity Commission (PIC) reports examine the conduct of Homicide Squad Detective Paul Jacob and Sydney Superintendent Adam Purcell.

NSW Police Minister David Campbell is reserving comment on the detail of the reports until after they had been tabled in parliament.

However, he said the fact the inquiries had been conducted should promote confidence in the NSW Police Force.

"The fact that there are two PIC reports being tabled demonstrates that there are checks and balances in place and that no one is going to tolerate illegal behaviour by police," Mr Campbell told reporters.

He declined to comment on claims one report revealed an officer had been sacked for leaking information that a child sex predator was living in a western Sydney community.

The PIC is expected to make recommendations on whether Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione can order the dismissal of Supt Purcell, after phone intercepts revealed him leaking details of a sexual assault complaint and criticising senior police.

Mr Jacob is in the spotlight for allegedly "going easy" on former Bathurst detective sergeant Brad Hosemans, who is a person of interest in the disappearance and suspected murder of Bathurst woman Janine Vaughan.

Mr Hosemans, who also is a former Bathurst deputy mayor, led the investigation before Mr Jacob took over, and has denied any involvement.

In evidence to the PIC's public hearing in August, a 47-year-old female witness, given the code name RA1, told of seeing Ms Vaughan tied up in Mr Hosemans's car shortly after she went missing six years ago.
