UK: Senior police officer fake
A senior police officer was forced to resign after pretending to be on jury service to take time off work.

Det Insp Nav Riaz of Greater Manchester Police was called as a juror for a two-week trial early last year.

He was not selected as one of the 12 members of the jury but told his employers he would be serving on the panel and did not return to work.

Two Austin PD officers suspend

Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo has placed two officers assigned to the downtown area on a 90-day suspension. The Chief says Corporal Michelle Cross and Officer Carlos Saldivar were spending too much time with each other and not enough time responding to calls while on patrol downtown, despite being warned more than once to focus on their jobs during work hours.

“The Department has rules regarding relationships between employees to maintain the integrity of the organization and avoid potential conflict of interest,” said Assistant Chief Sam Holt in a written statement issued by APD.

According to the disciplinary memo issued by Chief Acevedo, Corporal Cross was Officer Saldivar's supervisor. Their obvious personal relationship, the Chief wrote, "was having a negative effect on the shift morale and performance". Despite repeated warnings, he wrote, the two sometimes spent up to six hours per shift with each other "drinking coffee and/or eating lunch".

The Chief says both officers violated APD rules requiring officers to devote their time and attention to work-related items while on-duty. He has given them a 90-day "agreed suspension", which means the officers do not have the right to appeal.
