Nigeria: IGP suspends two poli

THE Inspector-General of Police Mr. Mike Okiro has ordered the immediate suspension from duty of SP Romanus Nebo, Divisional Police Officer, Trans-Ekulu Police Division and outright dismissal of Sgt. Victor Kalu of the same Police Division in Enugu State Police Command.
A release from Force spokesman, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Agberebi Akpoebi said the IGP’s order came as a result of the officers’ alleged involvement in civil matters which are completely outside the ambit of Police assigned duties and responsibilities.

he Police Acts and Regulations, he stated, statutorily empowers the Police only to investigate cases that are criminal in nature, and certainly not civil matters.

The Police boss, therefore, warned that no police officer would be spared for misconduct, miscarriage of justice and all other forms of anti-policing in this democratic era.

He further called on Zonal Assistant Inspector-Generals of Police and Commissioners of Police to lecture their officers and men to desist from conducts that are capable of denting the image of the Force.
