I read the article posted this week regarding 'Police chief quizzed over free trip'. I noted that whilst the response on behalf of the Force concerned was the Chief had been transparent about the trip there is still to be an enquiry into the event. When we consider there are many who advocate even having a free cup of coffee is the start of the slippery slope I wondered where a free plane trip fitted into this. Could it be that there is a set of acceptable rules depending on rank or status, if there is can that be acceptable. Can we have a transparent policy about free gifts? I must admit I am not sure the world seems to change every day. What was acceptable yesterday is not today. This seems a small issue reported as a low profile event initially defended by the organizations but in reality it is a big issues not because of the status of the person involved or indeed this actual event itself, as I have no doubt there was no harm ment or intended on the part of the people involved and indeed it seems was undertaken openly and transparently and I am sure with integrity and honesty within the belief of the person concerned. The question in my mind is where is the line drawn and who draws it. I wondered what other members might think.
