Decision-making by police officers often involves complex problems. In their day-day work, they are likely to encounter many situations involving difficult moral or ethical dilemmas. However, little is done to train them in resolving those dilemmas. This may result in the officer resolving the situation by taking the line of least resistance - which may or may not be ethically or morally correct. There is often no one in their organisation to whom they can turn and discuss, openly and honestly, such dilemmas. Forums such as this gives officers the opportunity of discussing issues anonymously and, hopefully, help them to formulate appropriate responses to some of the many thorny situations they have to deal with.
