EiP refers to the news article dated 3rd January 2007 titled "Police disciplinary hearings could be held in public" in the Information Room. Public attendance by relatives or media at police disciplinary hearings is available in "exeptional circumstances".

EiP would welcome the views from members on this issue. EiP would be particularly interested in the views from the wider international policing community on this issue and whether this is accepted practice in your state, county, city or country.

Why not, what is there to hide.

If a person is guilty then evryone should, if the person is innocent then every one should know.

In my experience when issues are dealt with behind closed doors then someone is hiding something, in many cases it is not the people involved but the organisations and systems that are hiding their own failing.

Further to my comment on 11 January see the article posted in the information room from Canada

Police whistleblower offered settlement:

Article sourced from: CBC Toronto - Toronto,Ontario,Canada
11 January 2007

The police office was offered a settlement by his force so the hearing was not aired in public

I rest my case

The greater the transparency, surely the greater the public trust.

I agree the greater the transparency the greater the public trust so why is it that most police/organisational disciplinary hearing are in private.
